Our History

The Walsall Bangladeshi Progressive Society (WBPS) was formed in the mid 1980’s and became a registered charity in May 1993. It was formed by several local people led by Mr Alkas Miah, Mr Kaiser Ali, and others who were keen to start a community organisation in the Pleck area of Walsall.

With support from the Council, Nacro, and others the Society formed itself into a properly constituted organisation and acquired access to local community premises where it could hold meetings and plan some activities for local families to enjoy.

Financial help was given by the Council initially and funding was obtained from the Big Lottery, BBC, CIN, Walsall City Challenge, and others, which allowed the organisation to begin to employ staff to run its activities and this has continued over the years with the support of others.
